I had an interesting Friday…
My ex (of 17 years) was stopping over to pick up some clothing (hand-me-down blue jeans from one 7 year old to his younger cousin) at my daughters house. He immediately decided to take advantage of the fact that I was there by sitting down at the kitchen table with me.
After years of basic silence between the two of us, I thought the least I could do was have a conversation with him. Little did I know how long he could talk! My daughter and her significant other actually left the house for a dinner date with each other- he stayed- my 7 year old grandson who had been playing on the computer started asking for attention- he stayed- I found a way to get the ex to actually interact with his grandson, they watched a star wars movie together. The gson fell asleep, the ex stayed. The parents came home from their date with a 12 pack and he stayed. We played bowling on the wii and he drank too many beers and stayed. He slept on the couch and I slept with one eye open.
The next morning the gson and I got up at 7am (usual time) made breakfast and coffee, played in his room until we were both going stir crazy, both had showers- and finally he woke up grandpa- who stayed. At 11:00 am my friend called to ask if I was up for a day of hanging out. I escaped the apartment at 11:30!
I’m not really upset at my daughter for permitting this episode to happen- I do, however, realize that my ex has no manners and is completely uncouth.
However, Saturday did much more than make up for Friday! ;)
Saturday I was reminded that I am valued and special, and I don't think I've ever laughed so much. We had a picnic lunch, walked through a park, meandered around in neighborhoods that I grew up in, moseyed in and out of coffee bars, had an amazing dinner at an excellent vegan restaurant near the university, and saw a movie.
The movie (The Lucky Ones) was based upon characters who were in the army and had come home from Iraq. As soon as he realized this he said, "We don't have to stay if this subject is too close to home."
I think he's a nice guy- and I've actualy known him my entire life- but if William feels obligated- he's welcome to drop in and meet him! (Love you William!)
Today was watch the gson play soccer and sleep day... a nice relaxing Sunday!
I am so enjoying being home in Ohio!
